Matthew Birch is a freelance documentary photographer and filmmaker from Western Australia.
"The camera became an outlet for me to express myself and to share my experiences as I try to understand more about the world we live in. With itchy feet and a passion for adventure and travel, I am inspired by both nature and the human experience. My work focusses on capturing pure and candid moments from the journeys that have expanded my mind and understanding of the world, documenting people, places and stories along the way through the mediums of photography and filmmaking, where a lot of my work focusses on cultural preservation. I am a visual storyteller and I want my work to celebrate this beautiful world we live in by bringing new insights and perspectives to others."
Matthew's work has featured both online and in print by numerous publishers such as Monster Children, Urth and more. His independently produced film 'Protecting Kandiwal's Culture' has aired on Australian national TV on both SBS and NITV channels. His ongoing work with social and environmental foundations in West Africa aim to raise funding to combat desertification and contribute towards ecosystem regeneration and food security in the Sahel region.
